Marvin Trump worked as an architect until retirement a few years ago when he started painting with Michael Hayes' old masters class at the Old Town Gallery in Eureka. He has no prior art training other than classes required for an M.A. degree in architecture from Berkeley in 1951. . However, his high school hobby had been painting and sketching.
After serving in World War II as a pilot in the Air Corps, and college, he worked. as an architect in Sweden and Denmark for three winters and sketched on the summer "Grand Tours" - never carrying a ' camera. In 1952, while working for a Stockholm gallery owner, he met several modern masters, including Leger, Chagall, Matisse, and Henry Moore.
Marvin and his wife, Kirsten, live near Trinidad within sight, sound, and spray of the ocean, where he paints for his own enjoyment, sanity, and challenge to design, even redesign, nature's architecture.
