Shirley grew up as an “Army Brat” all over the world. She lived in Lakewood, Colorado and Sarasota, Florida during the 30 years prior to moving to Humboldt County in the summer of ’08.
In college Shirley was encouraged to study social work instead of art, and spent over 30 years as a social worker with children and families. She moved to Humboldt County to be closer to family. Her daughter lives here, and her sister lives in San Francisco.
Since moving here her dormant artist self has awakened! Though not formally trained as an artist, she has taken a few classes over the years, and watercolor has always been the medium that moves her. Shirley loves attempting to portray the colorful spirit of creatures and plants which one sees on looking closely, and is trying to continue to learn and grow as an artist.
